Happy Earth Day! 2020

It’s Earth Day!

Earth Day is an annual celebration of an environmental movement. Recently, I have been hearing how the Pandemic has really gone to reducing pollution since people are staying indoors. With next to little to no use of cars, trains, airplanes, factories, pollution has shown signs of reducing.  Even though this not a feasible way to help protect the environment, this might help Environmentalist to create a plan for the future on our fight to protect Mother Earth.

To read more about this topic check out NBC: Coronavirus lockdowns have sent pollution plummeting. Environmentalists worry about what comes next.

Here are a few of my favorite photos to celebrate Earth Day, Mother Earth!

Ways to Celebrate Earth day

  1. Unplug unused electric appliances.

  2. Washing your laundry in cold water.

  3. Give away your old books, toys, clothing  to the library or the  VVA (Vietnam Veterans of America) VVA Pickup

  4. Plant some flowers!

  5. Stop drinking out of plastic bottles- there are some great water bottles out there instead.

  6. Use reusable batteries- they do work! I highly recommend Eneloop Pro Batteries

  7. Recycle!

  8.  Use Energy Saver Light Bulbs, I recommend Phillips Energy Saver Light Bulbs They last much longer than a regular light bulb.

  9. Switch to e-books~ Save the trees!

  10. Use reusable grocery bags Zazzle~ Daphsam’s Reusable Grocery Bags

If you haven’t seen Moving Art on Netflix, here is a trailer of season 2 that will captivate you! There are 3 seasons of this beautiful cinematography with outstanding music. A great TV show to watch on Earth Day!

Mother’s Day Greeting Cards & Gift Ideas

Mother’s Day is a few weeks away and now is the time to think about what to buy for Mom! Especially during this time when we are not able to celebrate in person with our Moms.

Mommy Thank You Card Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

My Mother’s Cavalier, Princess Fiona, loves her Mommy very much. Little Princess Fiona has been sick but has recovered very well from a long illness. It was my own Mother’s love and devotion to Princess Fiona that has kept Princess Fiona going. I know that if Princess Fiona could talk, she would be saying these special words to my Mother. Reflect Poem~ Dahlia and Zen Rocks

Reflect just don’t get lost in the ripples.

Reflect and focus on the beauty, not the darkness.

Reflect but realize it will not change the past.

Reflect with an open mind.

Reflect while staying present.

Reflect on the future and dare to dream.

Saturday Gratitude Activity!

Gratitude

It’s hard to always sit down and write out all the things you are grateful for. There is always something to do much more important. So I decided to come up with this Gratitude Activity.

dahlia with zencopyright

Take the day of the week and use that day to come up with what you are grateful for. It can just be words or full sentences. It is all up to you!

For example Saturday

Smiles from my kids

Apple pie

Taking a walk with my dogs

Under Armour fleece pants

Reading my page a day calendar

Dogs that have been and are currently in my life

Art that I create daily

Yams with corn and feta cheese

This is a fun challenge that you can do every day or as much as you can. At the end of the day, good or bad, remind yourself of the things, people, activities that you are grateful for.  It will only help.

When Boredom Strikes!

 BOREDOM!

Why is it that I go through days where I find there are not enough hours for me to get things done.

Then there are other days when boredom strikes out of nowhere. I find that on days where it’s raining; the weather is gloomy, boredom rears its ugly head.

Audibles

If you’re not into watching television, Audibles.com is an excellent site hooked up with Amazon that you can download a book and listen to it. I have listened to my audiobook doing some activities, such as:

1. Cleaning the house

2. Doing laundry

3. Taking a walk

4. Do some watercolor or drawing

5. Preparing dinner

For The Gamer

I have two iPad apps that I highly recommend.

Jigsaw Puzzle

Jigsaw puzzle, which gives you a chance to pick many different puzzle designs and you can choose the number of pieces you would like to accomplish up to 400 pieces.

Ticket To Ride

Ticket To Ride is a fun family board game that I turned into an iPad app. You can play on your own with computer characters or online with people around the world.

Take Up A Hobby

Taking an online class can be a lot of fun. Many are self-pace, very engaging and you can learn many things! I have taken classes at:

  1. Skillshare.com

  2.  Udemy.com

  3. Mybluprint.com

Mindfulness

Maybe now is the time to sit down with a cup of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and explore how you are feeling at the moment.

Here are some journal prompts:

Take a look around your surroundings, when your eyes catch something of interest, start to free write. Don’t think about it. Just begin writing for 5 minutes.

2. Write about a moment you had in the past few days that you would like a “do-over.”

3. Create your wish list of all the things you would like to happen. It’s for your eyes only; have fun with it.

4. Write about someone you admire.

5. Write a letter to the 16-year-old you.

Another way to deal with boredom is to do some meditation. I highly recommend the Insight Timer app this app has many easy ways to take some time for yourself.

Get out and take a walk! Being with nature will bring fresh air to your lungs, clear your head and get you out of your boredom funk.

Planning A Birthday Party Ideas From The Cake To Invitations!

Birthday Party Ideas!

When it comes to coming up with a party idea for a Birthday, it can be a challenge to do something different each year.  From young to older birthday celebrations, it is fun and very rewarding to do something unique for that birthday person!

Below are some of my ideas!

Here is a Birthday Cake my husband, Henry, decorate for my Mother’s birthday.

The Wilton Method of Cake Decorating Course 2 Student Guide

The Wilton method is a great and helpful book that is filled with step by step ideas. It has helped my husband with creating the cake above.

Other designs of birthday cake designs are for the following:

This was a cake design for my Father-In-Law’s 90th birthday. He was a bird watcher lover and my husband that it was a great idea to create some of his favorite birds on a vanilla, buttercream cake.

Wilton 46-Piece Deluxe Cake Decorating Set, Cake Decorating Supplies

The Wilton 46- piece deluxe cake decorating set is what was used to make these cake designs. Now, it takes practice and patience to do this. Luckily, for my family, my husband has both!

Now if you are celebrating a birthday in the

Summertime, this is the cake design for you.

Since I was turning 36, he found a cute way to add the birthday age in the hammock.

The fourth idea is when you have a birthday in the wintertime. This cake was for our daughter who had a sledding party.

This was a lot of cake! He bought two Pillsbury Cake Mix and created the sledding hill.  Also adding, Marshmallows and Hersey Bars for the Snowman was a perfect touch.

Here are a few other cake designs that I want to share with you. Again, he used the Wilton Decorating Books And Set to help him create these cakes. Links below.

Floral Friday: The Beauty Of The Iris And Using The Meaning To Find Peace

wordsofcpyright

Faith, Hope, Wisdom, Courage, And Admiration

The meaning of an Iris is faith, hope, wisdom, courage, and admiration.  Source to meaning of Iris- Proflowers

Which of these words jumps out for you? Don’t think about it, just look at the words and focus on the word that your eyes are drawn to.

                        Mine is courage.

For me, it’s the courage to wake up every morning and deal with the level of lower back pain. That will present itself as I get ready for the day.

                Affirmation With My Word

I have the courage to greet each morning with a relaxed body.

Now you give it a try! See if you can write or say an affirmation with your word.

With the word you have chosen, here are some activities:

  1. Put the word on a post-it note and stick it around the house.

  2. For the artist, create some art with your word and keep it as a screensaver on your iPhone, iPad or laptop!

  3. For the number of letters in the word, journal that many days on how that word is so important to you. eg. Courage has 7 letters so that will be 7 days of journaling.

  4.  Find a podcast or quote that is about that word.

Here are a few of my activities to show you how I used the word.

Happy Pictures And Bright Colors For Your Soul

“To get rid of depression, I swim with dolphins”

Patti Stanger
I drew this with Prisma color pencils on Bristol Paper.

When anxiety or depression takes hold of you. Find whatever it is that will pull you from the depths of those thoughts. Run, walk, draw, cook, hug your pet, your loved one. You are worth the time to find out what will work for you.

In a news article by Nicole Spector, “Smiling can trick your brain into happiness — and boost your health”. To read more, here is the link. https://www.nbcnews.com/better/health/smiling-can-trick-your-brain-happiness-boost-your-health-ncna822591

Smiling feels so much better than frowning. Do what it takes to get that smile on your face. And if you begin to laugh, even better!

Painting is a blind man’s profession. He paints not what he sees, but what he feels, what he tells himself about what he has seen.

Smiling can help:

  1. Relaxes the body
  2. Improves your mood
  3. Strengthen you immune system
My Color Pencil Drawing of Pastel Macaroons.

Bright, warm colors help with lifting your mood! They bring out feels of joy and happiness. That’s why I use bright colors in my art. They make me feel relaxed and optimistic!

The whole point is to live life and be- to use all the colors in the crayon box.

I hope that some of my images and colors have brightened a little bit of your day!
